1) If two cleaners work equally well, go with the greener.

o People buy all sorts of crazy products for all types of specific uses. The truth is, you can get almost anything clean with some good dish soap. We use Dawn® for its degreasing properties on windows and kitchens.
o We use Betco GREEN EARTH® NATURAL DEGREASER in a spray bottle for less strenuous tasks

2) At the outset, stronger cleaners may be necessary, but once the tough stuff is gone, a milder cleaner can be used for maintenance cleanings.

o Some stuff just won’t come come clean with our normal arsenal, and we are here to ensure your home is clean.
o We use goo off, WD40, and other specialty stain and gunk removers when need be.  The key is not to overuse, and to properly ventilate.

3) Never use the same tools for the rest of the house that you use for the bathrooms

o Always use a fresh cleaning cloth after cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and any other heavily soiled areas;
o We provide plenty of cleaning cloths. We make bundles of cloths for each house, 7 white terry cloths and 3 microfiber dust cloths.

4) Kitchens and Bathrooms require disinfectant cleaners to kill dangerous pathogens associated with human waste.

o Although it is a good disinfectant, avoid chlorine bleach and other cleaning products containing large amounts of chlorine. These products often masquerade behind aliases such as “sodium hypochlorite” or “hypochlorite.”
o We choose oxygen bleach. Oxygen bleach, unlike chlorine bleach, can be mixed with other household cleaners, is non-toxic to animals, plants, and humans, and the powder form breaks down into natural soda ash and/or borax after releasing oxygen during the cleaning process.
o In my green housecleaning business, we use "Ajax Oxygen Bleach Powder Cleanser" for the bathroom where its abrasive property is important. For general cleaning in bathrooms and kitchens, we use Betco GREEN EARTH® PEROXIDE CLEANER, which uses hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient which degrades to oxygen and water.

5) Think in terms of reducing indoor air pollution.

o We spend an average of 80% of our lives indoors.
o Look for products that have low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
o Chlorine bleach gives off chlorine. Breathing in the fumes of cleaners containing a high concentration of chlorine can irritate the lungs. This is particularly dangerous for people suffering from heart conditions or chronic respiratory problems such as asthma or emphysema. And the risks are compounded when the cleaners are used in small, poorly ventilated rooms, such as the bathroom. Chlorine is also a highly corrosive substance, capable of damaging skin, eyes, and other membranes. Chlorine was listed as a hazardous air pollutant in the 1990 Clean Air Act, and exposure to chlorine in the workplace is regulated by federal standards

6) Look for products that have a moderate (neutral) pH, not too acidic or alkaline.

o Strong acids/bleaches damage water and soil, not to mention your eyes and skin.

7) Use reusable microfiber cloths instead of paper products.

o If you use paper products, find paper towels and toilet paper with the highest amount of recycled content

8) Use bagged vacuum cleaners that contain HEPA filters

o Bagless vacuums are proven scientifically to release more allergens into the air.
o We use the Pro-Team Pro-Care 15XP.

ALLERGIES IN YOUR HOME

Many of our clients are initially drawn to our green cleaning services in hopes of finding a cleaning service that will not exacerbate their allergy symptoms.
Cleaning products can be a major contributor to poor air quality within a home. Did you know we spend up to 90% of our lives indoors? So much of our attention has been focused on air pollution out of doors that we are only beginning to understand the number of toxic chemicals present in our very homes, which are often at much higher concentrations than outside. Luckily, organizations such as the American Lung Society and xxxxx, xxxxxx, are leading the way in research and improvement of air quality
Incredible research is also being done on allergens and asthma. With millions of people suffering from issues related to auto-immune diseases, new information is constantly updating the way we understand the problems that trigger immune reactions.
Casa Bonita, through our newsfeed, wants to provide topical information to help people improve the health of their homes
How people develop allergic reactions:
1) By touch, such as poison ivy
2) By Ingestion, such as food allergies
3) By injection, such as drug allergies
4) By inhalation, such as pollen or dust mites
Inhalation is the most common cause of allergies, and the most likely to be caused by poor indoor air quality.
Most allergy symptoms are relatively mild, but in some people, quality of life can be diminished substantially. If you are suffering from allergy symptoms, you can see an Allergist. Allergists are doctors that test for common allergies and then develop a treatment program.
Common allergens found in the home include pollen, mold spores, dust mites, and pet allergies.
Unfortunately, allergies are on the rise, and scientists are working hard to try and understand why. Some suspect that we are victims of our own success; that increased use of antibiotics, better hygiene, and less exposure to infectious disease have weakened or altered our immune responses
